The Brunner Family

Paul Brunner and Cristina Plenge grew up in big families worlds apart – him in North America and her in South America. Serendipity brought them together almost 40 years ago and that good fortune was followed, some years later, by the arrival of their daughter Paula.

When the family took the decision to buy Blue Grouse they were wine industry novices best described by their dreams at the time. Paul thought he was getting a small hobby business to keep him distracted, Cristina thought she was getting her “little house on the prairie” and Paula thought she was finally getting a horse. It’s ten years down the road, there’s no hobby, no prairie and no horse, but there is the joy that comes with the love of wine and the never ending journey to learn more.

Philosophy

The Blue Grouse Estate Winery’s philosophy is “stewardship”. Our aim is to make everything we touch better than it was when we found it. We apply this to training our team on the environment that hosts our vineyard and home, the vines we grow, the wines we make, the infrastructure that supports the winery and vineyard, and the economics of our business model – everything.
